Srinagar, Sept 29 (KINS): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Monday issued a detailed forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting generally dry weather in the immediate days but the season’s first snowfall over higher reaches during the first week of October.
Quoting the forecast, news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) reported that dry weather is expected from September 29 to 30 and will continue until the afternoon of October 4. However, there is a possibility of light rain, thunder, and gusty winds towards the evening or night of October 4.
From October 5–7, the weather is likely to turn cloudy with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thunder accompanied by gusty winds at many places.
The higher reaches of North, Central, and South Kashmir as well as Chenab Valley may experience the season’s first snowfall during this period. Weather is expected to improve again between October 8–10, with dry conditions prevailing across the Union Territory.
The MeT has issued an advisory to farmers, urging them to complete the harvesting of paddy and other horticultural crops and ensure safe storage by October 4 (afternoon), before the wet spell sets in.
A gradual fall in day temperatures is expected from September 29 onwards, with a significant drop in mercury on October 5–6 due to the approaching weather system.
The advisory further noted that the coming spell will mark the transition to colder conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, setting the stage for winter in the region.(KINS)
