J&K ACB recovers over 35 Lakh, nabs Patwari red-handed in Samba bribery case

Samba, Nov 04 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Tuesday that it has recovered over 35 lakh in cash following the arrest of a Patwari caught red-handed while accepting a bribe in Samba district.

According to an official statement issued to news agency KINS , the ACB “registered FIR No. 19/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against Sunil Kumar, Patwari, Patwar Halqa Dadui, Tehsil and District Samba, for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a complainant”.

“The accused had allegedly demanded a bribe of 1,00,000 from the complainant for preparing a report sought by the Tehsildar Samba in connection with the correction of Girdawari. After negotiations, the demand was reduced to ₹80,000. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB for legal action”.

“Following verification, the ACB registered a formal case and constituted a trap team. The team successfully caught the accused Patwari red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was immediately arrested, and the bribe money was recovered on the spot.

During a subsequent search of the accused’s personal vehicle, officials recovered a huge cash amount exceeding ₹35 lakh, which was seized in the presence of independent witnesses. Searches were also conducted at his residence in the presence of Magistrates”.

The ACB has said that further investigation in the case is underway.(KINS)
