Jammu, Feb 06 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that a comprehensive survey has been conducted to identify landless and houseless families across the Union Territory.
The information was shared in response to Starred Assembly Question No. 1341 tabled by MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami regarding the assessment of families eligible for allotment of five marlas of land and housing benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Replying to the question, Minister In- charge the Rural Development Department (RDD) as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) said that the survey was carried out under PMAY-Gramin Phase-I through the Permanent Waiting List, which has now been fully saturated in J&K. District-wise details of identified landless and houseless families have been compiled , while the beneficiary-wise list of families in Kulgam district who have been allotted land has been provided.
The department further stated that the list of eligible beneficiaries was forwarded to the respective Deputy Commissioners after verification, in line with scheme guidelines. Allotment of five marlas of land and sanction of housing units are completed only after due verification.
Meanwhile, the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD) informed the House that a separate assessment was undertaken under PMAY-Urban 2.0. The survey was conducted through a mobile application developed by BISAG-N and implemented in all Urban Local Bodies and Municipal Corporations.
According to HUDD, the survey aimed at identifying potential beneficiaries, who are later verified through multiple stages, including scrutiny by local, district, and apex-level committees on the Unified Web Portal.
On the timeline for allotment and construction of houses, the government clarified that PMAY-Urban 2.0 does not provide for allotment of land. Instead, eligible beneficiaries are considered under different verticals, mainly through allotment of flats.
It was informed that the process of identification and approval generally takes 18 to 24 months, and construction of houses begins after the approval of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).(KINS)
