Srinagar, April 16(KINS): Ashok Koul paid tribute to B. R. Ambedkar during a seminar held at Amar Singh Club in Srinagar on Wednesday.
The programme was attended by Mohammad Anwar Khan, Mudasir Wani, Arif Raja, Sahil Bashir and other senior leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party.
Speaking at the seminar, Ashok Koul said that Dr Ambedkar was not only the maker of the Indian Constitution but also a great social reformer who worked throughout his life for justice and equality. He said Ambedkar’s ideas of social justice, equal rights and empowerment of weaker sections still guide the country today.
Koul said the BJP has always worked to follow Dr Ambedkar’s ideas through different welfare schemes and policies. He added that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the government has taken important steps to honour Dr Ambedkar and provide equal opportunities to all sections of society.
He also criticised past governments and said that leaders of the Indian National Congress, including former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, did not give Dr Ambedkar the respect and recognition he deserved during his lifetime.
Later, Mohammad Anwar Khan said the seminar was organised to remember Dr Ambedkar’s life and contribution to the country. He said Dr Ambedkar fought against social discrimination and worked for an inclusive and progressive India.
