ACB presents charge-sheet against PWD computer operator in bribery trap case

Srinagar, Apr 27 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has presented a charge-sheet against accused public servant Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, the then Computer Operator in PWD (R&B) Circle Ganderbal, in a trap case.

The charge-sheet was filed in case FIR No. 07/2022 registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Srinagar, before the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar.

The case was registered on 02-03-2022 on the basis of a written complaint alleging that the accused had demanded a bribe of ₹4,000 for issuance of a contractor card (D-Class). Acting on the complaint, a trap was laid by the ACB, during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. The tainted money was recovered on the spot, and subsequent chemical examination confirmed the presence of phenolphthalein on the hands of the accused.

Investigation conducted in the case established commission of offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the accused, identified as Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, resident of Bamloora Ganderbal.

After completion of all codal formalities, the charge-sheet was presented before the Hon’ble Court of Additional Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar on 27-04-2026 for judicial determination.

The next date of hearing in the case has been fixed for 10-06-2026.(KINS)
