ACB registers disproportionate assets case against chief accounts officer

Srinagar, May 07 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has registered a disproportionate assets case against Zafar Iqbal (KAS), Chief Accounts Officer, following allegations that he accumulated assets beyond his known sources of income.

According to an ACB statement, the accused, son of Mir Hussain and a resident of Gursai, Mendhar in Poonch, presently residing at Bathindi, Jammu, is currently posted in the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, J&K, Srinagar.

The statement said a secret verification conducted by the ACB revealed that while serving at different postings, the officer allegedly abused his official position and acquired assets worth crores of rupees in his own name as well as in the names of his family members and relatives.

It said a prima facie case of criminal misconduct was established against the accused, who was then serving as Treasury Officer, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Subsequently, FIR No. 06/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Central, Jammu under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and investigation was taken up.

According to the statement, search warrants were obtained from the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, following which ACB teams conducted searches at the accused’s residential premises in Bathindi, Jammu, and Gursai, Mendhar, Poonch, besides his official residence at Sanat Nagar, Srinagar.

The ACB said incriminating documents related to movable and immovable properties were recovered and seized during the searches. Further investigation into the case is underway.(KINS)
