Resolve differences within party, not in public: Taj Mohiuddin on Karra’s ‘deadwood’ remark
Senior Congress leader says politicians never become irrelevant; terms Omar Abdullah-led government ‘helpless’ due to limited powers in Union Territory.

Srinagar, May 31 (KINS): Senior Congress leader Taj Mohiuddin on Sunday said that differences within the party should be resolved internally rather than being aired publicly, reacting to remarks made by J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hamid Karra.
Karra had recently stated that some leaders within the Congress had become “deadwood” and advised them to refrain from issuing statements against the National Conference-led government.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Taj Mohiuddin said differences of opinion exist in every political party but public statements against fellow leaders were not appropriate.
“There are differences everywhere, but calling some leaders deadwood is not appropriate. Politicians never die. There may be some issues, but they can be resolved within the party instead of making statements in public,” he said.
Commenting on the functioning of the Omar Abdullah-led government, Taj said the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir was operating under significant limitations due to the Union Territory setup.
“In a Union Territory, the Chief Minister’s powers are limited. The BJP is responsible for making the elected government helpless. However, the Chief Minister should have been aware, while contesting elections, about what promises could realistically be fulfilled under the existing system,” he added. (KINS)
