Srinagar, June 10 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a five-member committee to investigate the technical malfunction that disrupted the Gulmarg Gondola service on May 25, leaving more than 300 tourists stranded mid-air.
According to an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), Managing Director of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Mahmood Shah, will head the inquiry panel. The committee has been directed to submit its report within 10 days.
The panel will examine the sequence of events that led to the incident, conduct a detailed technical assessment of the cable car system, and review maintenance, inspection, and safety protocols to determine whether established procedures were followed.
The committee has also been tasked with identifying any operational lapses, negligence, or procedural violations by individuals or agencies responsible for the operation of the Gondola service.
In addition, it will recommend immediate corrective steps for the safe restoration of services and suggest long-term technical, administrative, and safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The stranded tourists and local guides were safely evacuated following a joint rescue operation carried out by the Army, Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).(KINS)
