Srinagar, July 21 (KINS): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Tuesday said widespread rainfall is expected to continue across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, warning of heavy to very heavy rain in parts of the Jammu division and the possibility of flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
According to the MeT Department, Katra recorded the highest rainfall during the past 24 hours with 107.1 mm, followed by Rajouri 63 mm, Poonch 61 mm, Reasi AWS 54.5 mm and Chahta Jammu AWS 42.5 mm.
Rainfall recorded after 8:30 am on Tuesday included Kathua with 93.5 mm, Samba 38 mm, Jammu 28 mm and Katra 26 mm.
The MeT Department has forecast generally cloudy weather with frequent spells of rain and thundershowers across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir from July 21 to July 23. Heavy rainfall and brief intense showers are likely at several places, while a few districts of the Jammu division may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly during the afternoon, evening and late night to morning hours.
From July 24 to July 27, rain and thundershowers are expected at scattered places, with the possibility of brief intense heavy showers.
The weather department has advised people to remain alert as heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas. It also warned of a rise in water levels in rivers and streams, along with flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The MeT Department has urged residents, commuters and tourists to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas during periods of intense rainfall.(KINS)
