Srinagar, Apr 21 (KINS): In a significant move aimed at improving healthcare delivery in peripheral areas, the Jammu and Kashmir Government today issued an order repatriating Medical Officers and Consultants continuing beyond permissible limits at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and GMC Jammu without valid authorization.
As per Government Order No. 321-JK(HME) of 2025, issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, doctors who do not hold super-specializations and are on deputation or tenure postings in the two GMCs for more than four and three years respectively, are to be immediately relieved and directed back to their parent departments—Directorate of Health Services, Jammu and Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir.
The order, signed by Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah (IAS), Secretary to the Government, emphasizes the administrative need to strengthen medical infrastructure and services in rural and underserved regions. All concerned doctors are deemed relieved with immediate effect. Any non-compliance will prompt disciplinary proceedings, the order states.
Further, it strictly warns the Principals and Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of both medical colleges not to process or disburse salaries for these doctors. Failure to follow this directive will be treated as a financial irregularity, inviting disciplinary action under the rules.
