J&K ACB Arrests Mineral Supervisor for Accepting 15,000 Bribe in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested Basharat Habib, Mineral Supervisor (Lasjan-Rajbagh Sector) in the Geology & Mining Department, Srinagar, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.

According to official statement, the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Basharat Habib was demanding a bribe in exchange for allowing the lifting of minor minerals (sand). Upon receiving the complaint, the Bureau conducted a discreet verification which confirmed the demand for the bribe.

Subsequently, a case under FIR No. 11/2025 U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended) was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team successfully laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹15,000 from the complainant, in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was immediately taken into custody.

Notably, this incident comes just two days after another official from the same department was caught red-handed by the ACB for accepting a ₹10,000 bribe in the Safapora area.

Further investigation into the case is underway.(KINS)
