Srinagar, Oct 22 (KINS): As many as 17 candidates have been cleared to contest the upcoming Budgam Assembly bypoll, marking the beginning of an intense electoral battle in the central Kashmir constituency.

According to officials, a total of 20 candidates had filed their nomination papers for the by-election. “However, forms of three candidates have been rejected during the scrutiny process,” an election official told Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS). The scrutiny of the nomination papers was conducted on Wednesday under the supervision of election authorities.

The bypoll, scheduled for next month, has generated significant political buzz as major parties gear up for a fierce contest. Candidates from the National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Apni Party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Awami Itehad Party (AIP), and several independents are in the fray.
