Srinagar, Nov 14 (KINS): BJP National General Secretary and J&K Prabhari Tarun Chugh on Friday said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has “lost the moral right” to continue governing Jammu & Kashmir following the defeat of National Conference (NC) candidates in both recently held by-elections.
Chugh in a statement issued to news agency KINS said the outcome in the Budgam Assembly constituency—vacated by Omar Abdullah himself—marks a significant humiliation for the Chief Minister. He noted that Omar Abdullah had earlier won the seat and promised continued service to its people, but the voters have now “completely rejected his insincere political narrative.”
He said the by-poll results reflect the “dismal failure” of the Omar Abdullah government on governance and development. “It is alarming that a seat Omar Abdullah promised to nurture and develop was abandoned by him. This betrayal led the people to lose all confidence in him and his administration,” Chugh remarked. He added that NC’s defeat clearly shows that the people of Jammu & Kashmir are ready to move beyond “family-centric politics and divisive agendas.”
Applauding BJP candidate Devyani Rani’s victory in the Nagrota Assembly constituency, Chugh said the mandate reflects the people’s strong faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-oriented, progressive policies.
Chugh further stated that the by-election results conclusively demonstrate the public’s disappointment with the Omar Abdullah government’s “inefficient and incapable” governance.
He asserted that the results have energized the BJP cadre across Jammu & Kashmir. “The BJP will continue working tirelessly to build a Viksit Bharat—a Developed India—where every citizen benefits equally from progress, and the politics of appeasement and corruption are permanently buried,” Chugh said.(KINS)
