RTO Jammu sets 15-day deadline for re-registration of outside vehicles

Jammu, Dec 24 (KINS): The Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Jammu, has issued a public notice directing owners of motor vehicles registered in other States or Union Territories and operating in the Jammu Division beyond the permissible period to apply for re-registration without delay.

According to the notice, retaining such vehicles in Jammu for more than 12 months without re-registration is a violation of Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The RTO warned that non-compliance hampers effective regulation, vehicle traceability and poses potential risks to public safety.

Vehicle owners have been granted a period of 15 days from the date of issuance of the notice to obtain a new registration mark from the competent authority. Failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe will invite strict action, including seizure, detention, imposition of penalties and other legal proceedings under the Motor Vehicles Act and relevant rules.(KINS)
