LG, CM join Youm-e-Ashura procession at Zadibal, pay tributes to Imam Hussain (AS)
Srinagar, Jun 26 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday joined thousands of mourners during the Youm-e-Ashura Zuljinah procession at Zadibal in Srinagar, paying rich tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions for their supreme sacrifice at Karbala.
Participating in the solemn observance, the Lieutenant Governor offered tributes to Imam Hussain (AS), describing his sacrifice for peace, love and compassion as an eternal inspiration for humanity. He said Imam Hussain’s life conveyed a timeless message of selfless service, justice and compassion for the underprivileged, urging society to draw inspiration from his noble virtues and walk the path of truth and righteousness. Sinha also served refreshments to mourners participating in the procession.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also joined the mourners at Zadibal and distributed water and milk at a sabeel set up along the procession route as a mark of respect and solidarity. Accompanied by Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq, the Chief Minister interacted with mourners and volunteers and appreciated their spirit of service during the observance.
Later, Omar visited the revered Shrine of Mir Shams-ud-Din Araqi (RA) at Zadibal, where he offered prayers for peace, harmony and the well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Youm-e-Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram, commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), his family members and companions at Karbala. The day was marked by mourning processions, religious congregations and sabeels across the Valley, with the administration making elaborate arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of the observance.
