Bandipora rape case row : Protests rock parts of Valley

Srinagar: Protests rock various parts of Kashmir Valley against the rape of a 3-year-old girl of Bandipora, on Sunday.

People from various localities of Sumbal area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and also from many parts of Srinagar, Nowgam, Zadibal, Dalgate, Nigeen took on the roads and staged protest demonstrations against the incident and demanding exemplary punishment to the accused.
The protestors blocked Bandipora- Srinagar road near Sumbal bridge, thereby disrupting traffic movement for some time. The protestors later marched towards main market Sumbal.

Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza and SSP Bandipora, Rahul Malik visited the spot and assured the protesters that the investigation into the case would be carried out on fast track basis. The protesters later dispersed off peacefully.

However, some clashes were also reported from Magam area of Budgam district.

Three-year-old minor was raped by a local boy in Bandipora village. Police have arrested the accused, who is a resident of Malikpora Trigam Sumbal. A case FIR number 81/2019, under section 363/342/376 RPC has been registered in this connection.

Meanwhile authorities on Sunday evening suspended internet services as a precautionary measure in north Kashmir’s Baramulla after incidents of stone pelting and protests were reported from different parts in the district.
