Srinagar, April 5 (KINS): Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang K Pole has asked people not to panic over availability of ventilators to combat against coronavirus.
“We have all arrangements in place to cater critical coronavirus cases. Less than seven percent coronavirus patients need ventilators. People should not get panic over less number of ventilators in Kashmir,” Pandurang told Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
He said there were adequate numbers of critical care ambulances available which have been deployed at COVID-19 hospitals.
There are apprehensions among people that Kashmir has not adequate ventilators available to deal with crisis.
In Kashmir for a population of 70 lakh, there are less than 100 ventilators in hospitals.
Earlier, doctors’ body raised concerns about the lack of proper and adequate personnel protection gears and safety equipment like N95 masks, PVC coated gowns and ventilators in hospitals.
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) also wrote written a letter to Baseer Ahmad Khan, the newly appointed Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir saying that hospitals in Kashmir lack “proper and adequate personnel protection gear especially N95 Masks, PVC coated gowns, goggles and other equipments.”
The doctors’ body has requested for procurement of adequate ventilators to augment the capacity of district hospitals and new medical colleges in the Valley.(KINS)
