GMC  Kathua gets NBEMS accreditation to start DNB courses in Pharmacology Department

KATHUA JULY 06(KINS):  In a major boost to medical education and patient-care, Government Medical College Kathua has been granted four posts of MBBS, DNB seats in the Department of Pharmacology by National Board of Examinations in Medical Science (NBEMS).

The provisional accreditation to start the course in the stream has been granted for five years starting from January 2021 to January 2025. Every year, four students can be enrolled and get Post Graduate training in the Department of Pharmacology.

Pertinent to mention that GMC Kathua has been accredited recently by NBE for the Departments of Pediatrics, Community Medicine and Physiology and a total of 8 seats have already been allocated to  in the accredited departments.

The start of DNB courses in GMC Kathua is expected to markedly bring down the referral from Kathua to the already overburdened tertiary care institutes of Jammu.

GMC Kathua has also applied for accreditation to DNB courses in ten more specialties including Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia, ENT, Ophthalmology, Gynae and OBG, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pathology, Orthopedics, out of which 5 departments have been inspected by NBE.

In order to strengthen the District Hospitals and new GMCs, the process of implementation of DNB courses in District Hospitals and new GMCs was initiated by Yasin Choudhary, Mission Director NHM, J&K under the dynamic leadership of Atal Duloo, Additional Chief Secretary, HME Department, J&K. The implementation of the DNB courses will enable these District Hospitals and GMCs to deliver tangible results in terms of HR and service delivery.

These courses are expected to drastically improve the health care services in the far flung districts and improve the services in the tertiary care institutions as well. This is also expected to markedly bring down the referral from the far flung districts to the already overburdened tertiary care institutes of the UT of J&K. (KINS)
