USG Machine At CD Hospital Obsolete Not Deliberately Kept Out of Order: GMC

Srinagar, May 1 : Government Medical College Srinagar has found as “baseless” the Head of Department Pulmonary Medicine CD hospital’s report that the USG machine was kept “deliberately out of order” from December 20 last year.

“The complaint received from the Head of the Department, Pulmonary Medicine is baseless and there is no negligence/deliberate attempt by the in-charge USG section of CD Hospital to keep the machine non-functional,” Head of Department, PG Department Radio Diagnosis, GMC, said in a communication.

“It seems that the Head of the Department, Pulmonary Medicine is misinformed and also he should have taken the expert opinion of the undersigned (Head of Department, PG Department Radio Diagnosis,) in this regard, as he by himself cannot assess the resolution and functioning of USG Machine.”

The HOD said that USG Machine installed in CD Hospital was procured in 2012 and had been mal-functioning since 21 May 2018.

“The concerned engineer informed that the machine is obsolete and its spare parts are not available,” the HoD said and requested the Principal GMC to procure a new USG/Colour Doppler Machine for the Hospital at the earliest in the interest of patient care.

The Head of Department Pulmonary Medicine had written a communication on April 11 this year to Principal GMC for “strict action” against in-charge section of the facility for “repeatedly conveying that the machine is out of order”.

The Head of Department Pulmonary Medicine Dr Naveed Nazir along with Dr. Syed Suriya (Associate Professor) had carried out a surprise visit to USG Section of the hospital on April 11 and they found that no Ultrasonography procedure has been done from 20 December 2018 even as the Machine was found in “working condition”.

“This clearly indicates negligence and deliberate attempt by the in-charge section of the hospital, to keep the machine defunct,” Dr Naveed had written to the Principal GMC Srinagar.

“It is pertinent to mention here that he (in-charge of the section) has repeatedly conveyed that machine is out of order,” Dr Naveed had said, adding, “Keeping in view negligence by in charge, it is as such requested that strict action against In-charge USG Section of this (CD) hospital may kindly be taken, so that inconvenience faced by  the patient who are coming from far-flung areas.” (GNS)
