MAC strengthened to enable its 24×7 functioning: MHA, reiterates zero tolerance to militancy

Srinagar, July 2 : The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday reiterated “zero tolerance” towards militancy and  said that the Multi Agency Centre (MAC) has been strengthened and re-organized to enable it to function on 24×7 basis for real time collation and sharing of intelligence with the central and state agencies concerned.

Responding to a question by BJP’s MP Ajay (Teni) Misra, seeking to whether Government is considering to prepare any special action plan to eliminate militancy in the country, minister of state G. Kishan Reddy said that New Delhi has adopted zero tolerance policy to tackle it.

“Close and effective coordination mechanism exists between intelligence and security agencies at the Centre and the State level.  The Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) has been strengthened and re-organized to enable it to function on 24×7 basis for real time collation and sharing of intelligence with the central/ state Agencies Concerned,” he said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

“States have raised Special Forces to deal with (militant) incidents and Central Armed Police Forces and National Security Guards have also been stationed at different locations to assist the States in dealing with such incidents,” he said.

The Central Agencies have been organising capacity building programmes for the States forces regarding intelligence sharing and investigation of the militancy cases, he said further, according to news agency.

He said militancy activities have reduced significantly in the Hinterland of the country.

“Extremist / insurgent / (militancy) incidents have also significantly reduced in North Eastern States and in the Left Wing Extremism affected areas. In Jammu & Kashmir, security forces are proactively engaging with (militants) as per the Government policy of zero tolerance towards (militancy), resulting in neutralization of large number of (militants),” he added.
