Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement chief spokesperson advocate Sajad Sheikh here on today supports the issue of students with a three-year diploma in travel tourism and hospitality management from different polytechnic colleges across the state.
A students delegation met the chief spokesperson here at the head office Rajbagh with a grievance of there future course into different fields. Unfortunately, there is no opportunity for the said students as tourism department failed to provide them with any job opportunity.
The student said they have no lateral entry option for going further in studies. There is no job opportunity as no such job notification was issued by the government over the years. In addition, there is no practical training for the concerned students, they further added.
This said course was started in 2004, under the World Bank aided Project Tech Ed III. The students said they are facing eligibility crises, as no department is allowing them to do the job under this diploma course.
There is no proper title – when it comes to the issuance of diploma certificates. As per syllabus it says, the students are pursuing a Diploma in Travel Tourism and Hospitality Management but at the time of certificates some are getting titled under travel tourism and some under tourism and hospitality, the students added.
As the prospects of the said course, there is a vast field where these students can be adjusted but the irony is that none of the mentioned posts allows them to take part, as when they apply for such posts they are being asked you are not eligible, students told Sheikh.
JKPM appeals the state authorities to look into the matter, it is the matter of future of these diploma holders. They did this diploma for their welfare and a better future, but as of now, they are moving from pillar to post in order to get the grievance redressed.
