Post Aug 5, militant violence down, but infiltration up in J&K: Union MoS Home

Srinagar, Dec 3 : Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday said that the incidents of militant violence in Jammu and Kashmir have declined after August 5 while as incidents infiltration have increased post August 5.

According to wire service—, Reddy while replying to a question regarding infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir in parliament said, “During the 115 days period from August 5, 2019 till November 27, there have been 88 such incidents as compared to 106 such incidents from April 12, till August 4”.

Minister further stated that there has been increase in the number of infiltration attempts from across the border.

“During the 88 day period from August 5, till October 31, there have been 84 such attempts as against 53 such attempts from May 9, till  August 4, while as, correspondingly, estimated net infiltration has increased from 32 to 59 during the above period”, Union Minister said.

Reddy further stated that pursuant to Government’s policy of zero tolerance against militancy, the security forces are taking proactive action against militancy. “Security agencies continue to receive inputs about the intention of militant outfits that are supported and sponsored from across the border, to indulge in militant attacks and breach of security in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

“Based on these inputs and past history of cross border militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, all necessary precautions and preventive steps including Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) are undertaken by the security forces in a proactive manner to flush out militancy and 157 militants have been neutralized during the year 2019 so far.”

 He added that moreover, security grid has mounted concerted efforts for launching operations against the residual militancy. Reddy further added that the Government of India has adopted a multi-pronged approach to contain cross border infiltration.

This includes multi-tiered deployment along the International Border, Line of Control, border fencing, improved intelligence and operational coordination, equipping Security Forces with advanced weapons and taking proactive action against infiltrators. (KNO)
