After wet spell, 1250 main roads, 60 per cent by-lanes, 95 per cent connecting roads cleared in Srinagar

Power supplied as per schedule, some feeders developed snag, being repaired: DDC Sgr

Srinagar, Jan 16 : Following four-day wet spell in Kashmir, the district administration Srinagar on Wednesday said that over 1200 main roads, 60 per cent by-lanes as well as 95 per cent connecting roads have been cleared across Srinagar.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary in an exclusive chat with the wire service—said that the men and machinery was pressed soon after the snow started accumulated in Kashmir.

He said the men and machinery was kept ready after prediction about wet spell came to the fore, adding that the mechanical division here cleared the main roads including those connecting hospitals, schools and others on priority basis following which other roads were cleared.

Dr Choudhary informed this wire service that 1250 main roads have been cleared by the mechanical division here while Roads and Building (R&B) department cleared 95 per cent connecting roads. He also said that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has cleared 60 per cent of by-lanes till this morning.

About electricity supply, DC Srinagar said that the people are getting electricity as per the schedule, adding that none of the areas in Srinagar were kept under darkness. “The prior measures taken by the administration proved fruitful, thus helped us to provide basic facilities to the people even during the snowfall,” he added.

Giving details, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar further stated that 61 feeders of 33 Kilowatt out of 66 are functional while rest five had developed technical snag and are being repaired. He further stated that 253 feeders of 11 Kilowatt out of 260 are functional while rest seven feeders are being repaired.

He informed that no complaint regarding water shortage in any area was received, adding that a pipeline was ruptured on the first day of snowfall in Srinagar outskirts, adding that the work for its renovation was started soon after the information was received and was repaired in the mid of the night on the particular day.

Asked about a breach in open canal at Rangil, DC said that the temporary arrangements have been made in this regard till the breach will be repaired.

Asked about potholed roads in Srinagar, DC Srinagar said that these roads will be macadamized after the weather conditions improve, appealing people to cooperate in maintaining the conditions of the roads and other things in their surroundings. (KNO)
