‘5 soldiers, 4 civilians also injured’

Srinagar, June 27 (KINS): At least sixteen times armies of India and Pakistan exchanged gunfire along the line of control (LOC) across Jammu and Kashmir in the last 26 days of the June month.
As per the data available with news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service(KINS), in the present month four army men and one civilian were killed so far, while as five army soldiers, four civilians were injured.
The data also said that dozens of houses were damaged across the borders of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the data, Pakistani troops made the highest number of ceasefire violations in the last 16 years along the J&K border.“Shelling and firing by Pakistani troops was “very heavy” in 2019 and now in 2020, virtually making the 2003 India-Pakistan border truce “redundant”, officials said.
There have been 3,289 ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army along the Indo-Pak border in 2019, they said.
“Pakistani troops repeatedly targeted forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) to create a fear psychosis among the people,” a senior police officer said.
In 2018, Jammu and Kashmir had recorded 2,936 instances of ceasefire violations by Pakistan with an average of eight cases daily, in which 61 people were killed and over 250 injured.
The violations continued in 2019 despite Pakistani troops vowing to maintain peace on the border during flag meetings with the Indian forces, the Army official said.
“Pakistan vows to maintain peace and strengthen border relations, but they do not keep their promises,” he said.
The officials said due to frequent shelling and firing incidents, fear gripped the border populace and prompted thousands of people to migrate to safer places.
To protect border residents in view of increasing ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir, the central government sanctioned Rs 415 crore for the construction of over 14,400 underground bunkers along the LoC and the IB and made efforts to speed up the work last year.
The Indian government led by late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee entered into a border ceasefire agreement with Pakistan along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir on November 26, 2003.
India shares a 3,323-km-long border with Pakistan, of which 221 km of the International Border (IB) and 740 km of the Line of Control (LoC) fall in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per data available with KINS, Indo-Pak armies exchanged gunfire along the line of control (LOC) on June 03 in Keran sector of Poonch. “On June 05 a soldier was killed another injured in Ceasefire violation along LOC In Sher Tikri and Dadal in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district. The deceased soldier was identified as Halavadar MM Karan.
On June 07, both armies traded gunfire along the line of control in Rampur sector in Baramulla district and Keran sector in Kupwara district. On June 09 : Guns roared along LOC in Mankote sector of Poonch similarly on June 10 Two animals were killed, cowshed damaged along LOC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri”.
The date available with KINS further reads that one soldier was killed, and a policeman on leave was injured in cross border firing in Rajouri district of Jammu division on June 11..
Deceased soldier was identified as Naik Gurcharan Singh while Policeman was identified as Faiz Alam. On June 12, Indo-pak armies exchanged gunfire along LOC in Uri in the cross border shelling. A woman was killed who was identified as Parveena Begum, wife of Shabir Ahmad Shiekh of Nambla village. On June 12 Cross border shelling was reported in Kirni and Qasba sectors of Poonch district. On June 14, Cross border shelling was reported along LOC in Rampur sector of Baramulla district”.
As per data on June 14, an army soldier was killed while two others injured in Cross border shelling in Poonch district. Deceased soldier was identified as Sepoy Luingambui Abonmei of Assam 10 regiment, while the injured were identified as Leliekothein Senghon and Tangsoik Kwainiungar. On June 18, Pak violates ceasefire in Machil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.0n jJune 18, Soldier injured in cross firing along LOC in Akhnoor sector of Jammu identified as Jeewan of 8 Jakli. On June 19, Cross border shelling was reported along LOC in Karnah sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district,” the data said.
The information available with KINS reads that on june 20, Three Civilians were Injured in Pak shelling along LOC in Hajipeer sector of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district who were identified as Parveena Bano wife of Shabir Ahmad, Ahmad Din Shiekh and Maqbool Mangral.
“On June 22, Soldier killed in Pak firing alog LOC in Naushera sector of Rajouri district identified as Deepak karki (37) of 24 MLI. On June 26 , a 17 year old girl was injured in Pak army firing along LOC in Nezapir post in Poonch sector identified as Nazia Kaosar daughter of Late Ct. Mohammad Bashir Gujjar,”.(KINS)
