Police arrests drug peddler, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar July 10: Continuing its drive against drug dealings, Srinagar Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession, a police spokesperson said in a statement.


The statement issued to news agency KINS says officers in the jurisdiction of PP Nehru Park intercepted a person identified as Umar Noor Sheikh resident of Sonwar Srinagar. On search, 90 grams of Charas has been recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PP Nehru Park where he remains in custody.

Case FIR No. 74/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station RM Bagh and investigation in the matter has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” it reads.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings.”
