Awantipora Police arrests a drug peddler, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar, Sep 01 (KINS): Awanitpora police Tuesday said that it arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.


In a statement issued to news agency KINS, the police said that officers at a checkpoint established in village Sharshali Khrew, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-3507 with one person on board. “He has been identified as Tawfeem Ahmad Dar resident of Waghama Bijbehara.

  During the search officers were able to recover 35 kgs of poppy straw (fukki) from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station Khrew, where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized” it said.


Accordingly, case FIR No. 48/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Khrew and investigation has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood.

Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police have resolved to deal robustly with drug peddlers”.(KINS)
