Police organises drug de-addiction rally in Handwara, Seminar on drug abuse in Awantipora


Srinagar, Dec 19 (KINS): As a part of anti-drug drive week ,Police said it organises drug de-addiction rally in Handwara and Seminar on drug abuse in Awantipora.
In a statement police said that Police in Handwara under the supervision of SSP Handwara Dr G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy-IPS organized a drug de-addiction rally in collaboration with several Schools of Handwara area. The rally was started from Degree College Handwara to New Bus Stand passing through town Handwara. During the rally, Students and police officials were carrying placards, banners having varied information about the causes and consequences of illegal use of drugs.
The rally was led by ASP Handwara  Mashkoor Ahmad-JKPS besides DySP DAR Handwara and SHO PS Handwara participated in the rally. Among others, members from Municipal committee Handwara and respectable of Handwara town and its adjacent villages participated in the rally.
During the road march, announcement via loudspeakers was also made to make aware the general public about the dangers posed by drug addiction to youth. The leading officers appealed the general public to prove yourself as responsible citizens by cooperating police in sharing all information related to illegal use and trade of drugs. General public of the area applauded the role of Handwara Police for creating such rallies in the area and assured their cooperation in sharing all information related illegal use of drugs.
Similarly, in Awantipora seminar was organised on drug abuse at Govt Degree College Tral. The seminar was attended by SDPO Tral and SHO Tral besides Principal of Govt Degree College Tral, Medical Officer from Sub District Hospital Tral, Drug Inspector and Chairman Civil Society Tral were present on the occasion.
The aim of organizing the event was to create awareness among the youth and general public about the menace of drugs, the dreadful effects of drugs and the steps to be taken to eradicate this menace from the society.
While speaking on the event, SDPO Tral described the drug menace as an epidemic which is spoiling the future of the Nation as a termite and sought the help of the youth to create awareness among all. The students were briefed about the early symptoms of drug abuse which parents should keep watch of so that they can maintain check at home. The programme was conducted in a very cordial environment followed by an interactive session in which some students also spoke about the ill effects of drug abuse.
At the end of seminar,  anti drug abuse rally was organised from Main Market Tral to Abghar Tral.(KINS)
