Awantipora police arrests 02 drug peddlers; contraband substance recovered


Srinagar Dec 26 (KINS): Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Awantipora have arrested 02 drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession, a police statement said.
The statement issued to news agency KINS says that a police party from Police Post Reshipora at a checkpoint established at Dattpora Awantipora intercepted two suspicious persons.
“They have been identified as Rayees Ahmad Bhat and Mohammad Dawood Bhat both residents of Reshipora Awantipora.   During checking, Officers were able to recover 14Kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where they remain in custody,” the statement reads.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 199/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation into the matter has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.  Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” the statement says.
