  Jammu University to name gymnasium, indoor sports facility after P V Sindhu

Jammu, Aug 16 (KINS )The Jammu University on Monday announced that it had decided to name its gymnasium and indoor sports facility hall after two times Olympic Medalist and ace shuttler P V Sindhu.

Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Manoj K Dhar, in his Independence Day address said that this move will definitely motivate young sportspersons of the UT of J&K and the country as well to pursue various sports activities professionally.

It is noteworthy to mention here that she is the first Indian to become the Badminton World Champion and only the second individual athlete from India to win two consecutive medals at the Olympic Games.

She rose to a career-high world ranking of no 2 in April 2017. She is the recipient of the sports honour Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, and India’s fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri.

She was also honoured with Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, in January 2020.
