Srinagar,Jan 24: In less than three months, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir, R R Swain, has embarked on a groundbreaking initiative by holding seven public redressal meetings across the region.
The impact of these gatherings has been profound, as citizens, including women and youth, find a direct channel to voice their concerns and witness the swift redressal of their long-standing issues.
The public meetings, popularly known as ‘Grievance redressal program,’ have become a beacon of hope for the community, with numerous individuals expressing relief as their problems are addressed promptly. This initiative is fostering a positive environment where citizens feel heard and empowered to advocate for their genuine concerns.
Remarkably, people from every district eagerly await the grievance redressal programs in their localities. Senior citizens, particularly those from far-flung areas, laud the DGP’s efforts, stating that the public Darbars have significantly benefited the people by providing a platform for resolving their pending issues.
A notable aspect of these events is the active participation of women, who are increasingly voicing their genuine concerns. The DGP’s commitment to addressing and resolving the problems raised by women has garnered praise, signaling a positive shift towards inclusivity in the grievance redressal process.
Equally commendable is the engagement of the youth, who bring forward their genuine concerns for resolution during these public redressal programs. This inclusive approach is fostering a sense of community involvement and collaboration in finding solutions to various issues.
In Srinagar, and Jammu a significant turnout, including residents from the far flung areas participated in the recent DGP’s grievance redressal programmes. Attendees patiently awaited their turn to voice their grievances and seek solutions.
Notably, even the police, including families of martyrs, have actively joined these public redressal programs, highlighting the genuine need for assistance. The DGP’s willingness to engage with all sections of society underscores a holistic approach to community policing, emphasizing that everyone’s concerns deserve attention and resolution.
Further The Director General of Police (DGP) has pioneered a unique public grievance redressal program, holding the first of its kind in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district and organizing another in South Kashmir at the District Police Lines of Police District Awantipora. The response from the public was immense.
Mohammad Aslam, a senior citizen here in Srinagar, expressed his appreciation for the program, highlighting the significance of a high-ranking police official directly engaging with people to understand their issues and grievances related to police services, including complaints and investigations.
Waseem Raja, another citizen, commended the DGP for assuring timely responses and redressal for each grievance raised. It’s noteworthy that these initiatives are not for recruitment or general transfers.
The public turnout at these programs has been diverse, with individuals of all ages sharing their grievances. The DGP, J&K, listened attentively, issuing on-the-spot directions in several cases to ensure prompt redressal of concerns raised by attendees.

He stated that the force is dedicated to resolving a wide range of citizen concerns and problems related to police services, underscoring their seriousness in this commitment.
