SKIMS Addresses Isotope Supply Issue Impacting Patient Scans

Srinagar, Mar 24: In a public notice issued today, the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) addressed the challenges faced by patients regarding lodine 131 and DTPA scans at the Nuclear Medicine department.
The notice highlighted that SKIMS receives these crucial isotopes from BRIT Mumbai on a weekly basis. However, in recent weeks, the supply has been erratic due to issues with generator plants at BRIT, causing disruptions in availability.
SKIMS emphasized its dependency on BRIT for these isotopes, as they are not accessible in the open market. Despite the challenges, SKIMS assured patients that they are in regular contact with BRIT to ensure the availability of these isotopes.
While this week saw the receipt of iodine 131, albeit in reduced quantity, SKIMS anticipates the arrival of isotopes for DTPA scans next week. The institution expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to patients and requested their cooperation during this period of supply uncertainty. The notice was issued through the PR Office at SKIMS.
