Srinagar, Mar 31: In a concerted effort to combat the proliferation of drugs in society, the police have apprehended five drug peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara, seizing contraband substances from their possession.
At a checkpoint established in Khanpora Baramulla, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) intercepted two individuals identified as Azad Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Hassan, and Aqib Ahmad Gojree, son of Mohd Ayoub, both residents of Naidkhai and Bagh e Islam Baramulla respectively. A search revealed the possession of 140 grams of Charas. The suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody at PS Baramulla.
Similarly, at a checkpoint in Bimyar Boniyar, a police team led by the SHO intercepted Mudasir Rashid Wani, son of Abdul Rashid from Gantamulla, who was riding a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05C-3436. Upon search, 40 grams of Charas was found in his possession. Wani has been arrested, and the motorcycle used in the commission of the crime has been seized.
In Handwara, at a checkpoint set up at Champora Crossing by the police team from PS Vilgam, two individuals, Manzoor Ahmad Shah and Mohd Afzal Shah, both residents of Gund Momin Vilgam, were intercepted. A search resulted in the discovery of 90 grams of Charas in their possession. The suspects have been arrested and are held in custody at PS Vilgam.
Cases under the relevant sections of the law have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are underway.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any instances of drug peddling or other criminal activities to the nearest police establishment or by dialing 112. Cooperation from the public is essential in combating the menace of drugs in society. The police reaffirm their commitment to taking stringent action against criminals in accordance with the law.
