Srinagar, Apr 29: In response to the ongoing spell of incessant rains and adverse weather conditions, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), convened a crucial meeting to evaluate the flood control and mitigation arrangements in the district.
Accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police, Ashish Mishra, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the critical need for seamless coordination among various departments and the development of an effective strategy to ensure swift responses to potential flood situations.
Addressing the assembled officers, Dr. Bhat underscored the importance of proactive measures, urging them to maintain a state of preparedness by deploying personnel and resources to vulnerable areas. He stressed the significance of constant monitoring of flood-prone zones and timely dissemination of information to the public regarding evacuation plans and safety measures.
Special attention was directed towards identifying and addressing vulnerable spots, with a focus on rapid response and preventive measures in the event of embankment breaches or other emergencies. The Deputy Commissioner urged concerned departments to develop comprehensive rescue plans and establish backup control rooms to enhance communication and coordination during crises.
Furthermore, specific directives were issued to key departments, including the health sector, to safeguard essential supplies and ensure uninterrupted services during flood emergencies. The importance of disseminating standard operating procedures (SoPs) akin to hospital “Code Blue” protocols to all stakeholders was highlighted to streamline emergency response efforts.
Additionally, measures were outlined to protect food grain stocks and ensure timely distribution of rations to mitigate potential disruptions caused by rising water levels. Various departments, including the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Irrigation, State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC), and others, were tasked with implementing comprehensive flood mitigation strategies.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from multiple departments, including Additional Deputy Commissioners, Chief Planning Officer, Superintending Engineers, Chief Medical Officer, and representatives from tourism, food supplies, transportation, and irrigation sectors, reaffirming the collaborative approach towards enhancing flood resilience in the district.
