New Delhi, Jun 1: The INDIA bloc is projected to secure more than 295 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, according to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. This assertion was made following an alliance meeting, where feedback from the electorate was reviewed.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting at his residence, Kharge detailed the discussions held with top opposition leaders, which lasted about two and a half hours. Key topics included strategies for counting day and directives for party workers.
Votes from the seven-phase general elections will be tallied on June 4. Kharge criticized the BJP, alleging that they are attempting to manipulate public perception through government exit polls.
“The INDIA bloc will get more than 295 seats. We have arrived at this figure after speaking with all our leaders,” Kharge stated, emphasizing that their projections are based on direct feedback from the populace. He contrasted this with government surveys, suggesting that these often exaggerate figures.
Kharge also highlighted the instructions given to bloc workers regarding Form 17C and ensuring they remain in the counting halls until they receive the election certificates.
The meeting was attended by senior leaders from Congress, Samajwadi Party, CPI(M), CPI, DMK, JMM, AAP, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar). Notable attendees included Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, and Farooq Abdullah. Mamata Banerjee of TMC and Mehbooba Mufti of PDP were absent due to election engagements and personal reasons, respectively.
Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and K.C. Venugopal were also present at the meeting.(PTI)
