Srinagar, June 20: Anticipation is high as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Srinagar to lead the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) tomorrow morning. This year’s event, themed “Yoga for Self and Society,” seeks to promote global health and wellness through yoga.
Officials report that the Prime Minister will join the event at 6:30 AM, addressing the gathering and participating in a Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session. Stringent security measures have been put in place for the Prime Minister’s two-day visit to Kashmir.
Approximately 8,000 participants are expected to join PM Modi in performing yoga on the banks of the picturesque Dal Lake. These participants have been trained over the past three days in the specific yoga asanas to be performed.
The people of Jammu and Kashmir are particularly thrilled about PM Modi’s presence, which highlights his special connection to the region. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the significance of the visit for unity, wellness, and celebration, expressing pride in hosting the Prime Minister.
Over the past decade, yoga has gained substantial recognition both nationally and internationally, with more than 235 million global participants in the International Day of Yoga since its inception by PM Modi in 2015. In Jammu and Kashmir alone, 2.3 million people participated in last year’s Yoga Day.
As preparations reach their final stages, security has been heightened across Srinagar. The SKICC, set against the backdrop of Dal Lake, is being adorned to welcome the Prime Minister and yoga enthusiasts. The event will feature yoga demonstrations and workshops led by renowned instructors, reinforcing the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.”
Local residents have expressed excitement and pride in hosting this significant event, viewing the Prime Minister’s presence as a testament to the importance of the region. The International Day of Yoga, celebrated in over 190 countries, aims to raise awareness of yoga’s benefits and encourage its incorporation into daily life.
The government has promised that the 10th International Day of Yoga will be a memorable event, fostering wellness and harmony worldwide.(KNS)
