Srinagar Hosts First-Ever ‘Chinar Book Festival’ to Revive Youth’s Love for Reading

Srinagar, Aug 17: In an era where digital media dominates daily life, the weeklong ‘Chinar Book Festival’ kicked off today at SKICC, Srinagar, aiming to rekindle a passion for reading among the youth. The festival, a first-of-its-kind event in the region, has drawn over 1,000 publishers from across India, representing a diverse range of literary works in languages such as Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, and English.
The festival’s primary objective is to inspire young minds to embrace the rich culture of reading and explore the world through books. With an array of captivating activities, including literary sessions, book displays, and interactive events, the Chinar Book Festival is poised to reignite the joy of reading in a rapidly digitizing world.
One of the festival’s most popular attractions is the Children’s Corner, where young readers can enjoy storytelling sessions, hands-on workshops, and activities designed to spark their imagination. Alongside this, a significant Photo Exhibition showcases themes like ‘Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh Through the Ages,’ ‘25 Years of Kargil Vijay Diwas,’ and ‘National Space Day,’ offering visitors a unique visual journey through history and legacy.
More than 200 book stalls line the festival grounds, giving visitors the chance to explore a wide array of literary works. Publishers from across the nation have gathered in Srinagar, adding to the diversity and richness of the offerings.
The festival also offers workshops on Creative Writing, Calligraphy, Storytelling, and Emotional Intelligence, aimed at equipping attendees with new skills and creative insights. Interactive symposiums will delve into topics such as Careers in Civil Services, Empathy Circles, and the Art of Conversation, providing invaluable guidance for both personal and professional growth.
As the festival continues throughout the week, it is expected to become a hub of literary engagement and creativity, fostering a lifelong love of books among Srinagar’s youth.
