Srinagar, Aug 20 (KINS): In an effort to address the growing urban congestion and enhance infrastructure, the Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a high-level committee to identify potential sites for the development of parking lots in Jammu and Srinagar cities.
The move is aimed at improving traffic management and alleviating parking issues in these bustling urban centers.
The committee comprises key officials, including the Inspector General of Police (Traffic), J&K; Commissioners of Jammu and Srinagar Municipal Corporations; the Transport Commissioner of J&K; and Vice Chairmen of both the Srinagar and Jammu Development Authorities. Additionally, the committee has the power to co-opt any other relevant members as deemed necessary.
The primary responsibility of the committee will be to identify suitable, encumbrance-free sites for the development of parking lots in both cities. The identified areas will be assessed for their suitability in terms of accessibility, infrastructure potential, and freedom from legal or physical encumbrances.
The committee has been directed to submit its recommendations and suggestions to the Housing and Urban Development Department within one month from the issuance of the order. It is expected to ensure strict adherence to all relevant rules, procedures, and guidelines set forth by the government.
The order was issued by the Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, underscoring the importance of the initiative in improving urban infrastructure and traffic management.(KINS)
