‘NC- Congress settle seat sharing differences’ Announcement expected tomorrow

Ishtiyaq Kar
Srinagar, Aug 22 (KINS): After hectic negotiations, all differences over candidates and the distribution of seats between the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and the Indian National Congress (INC) have been resolved, paving the way for a strong alliance in the upcoming elections, sources informed news agency KINS.
“The National Conference top brass is currently finalizing the approval of the seat distribution and segment identification in Srinagar, while the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has sent its proposed list for approval to the Congress high command in New Delhi,” Sources claimed.
Well-placed sources indicate that both lists are expected to be released simultaneously from Congress headquarters in New Delhi and the National Conference’s offices in Srinagar on Saturday.
According to sources, the NC is likely to get 60 seats, with 40 of them allocated to the Kashmir region and 20 to Jammu. Congress is expected to secure 30 seats, with 23 in Jammu and 7 in Kashmir. Within its share of 60 seats, the NC may leave the Kulgam constituency in Kashmir to Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and Ram Nagar in Jammu to Harsh Dev Singh of the Panthers Party.
Additionally, there is speculation that the Congress may independently negotiate to share four of its allotted seats with the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) as part of a give-and-take arrangement, further strengthening their position in the alliance.
This unified front between JKNC and Congress signals a significant strategic move ahead of the elections, with both parties looking to consolidate their power across the region.(KINS)
