PC releases manifesto, promises to set up judicial commission to investigate alleged rigging of 1987 elections

Srinagar, Sep 05:The Peoples Conference (PC) has pledged to fight for the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A, as well as the return of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, as part of its recently unveiled election manifesto. Party president Sajad Gani Lone, along with senior leaders, announced that the PC remains committed to restoring the pre-2019 constitutional position of the region. The party emphasized that it would pursue this goal both within and outside legislative forums.

A major promise in the manifesto is the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the alleged rigging of the 1987 assembly elections. The PC labeled the 1987 elections as the “murder of democracy” and linked the political instability in Kashmir today to this event. “The Great Robbery of 1987 – the theft of our rights, young lives, and collective destiny – needs accountability,” the manifesto stated.

The PC also vowed to put an end to the blacklisting of Kashmiris by security agencies, a practice that has barred many from accessing government jobs, passports, and contracts. The manifesto condemned this as inhumane and unjust.

Additionally, the party promised to work toward repealing the Public Safety Act (PSA) and other “draconian laws” that have been used against Kashmiris over the past three decades. The manifesto further included commitments to revive the July 13 Martyrs Day holiday, provide free electricity to BPL families, grant land ownership to the poor, waive KCC loans, ensure fast-track recruitment, revive the old pension scheme, and introduce a transfer policy for female ReT teachers.
