Markoot village of Gurez faces prolonged electricity outage

Lone Sulaiman
Srinagar, Oct 27 (KINS): Markoot village in the Gurez Valley has been plunged into darkness for weeks, causing huge inconveniences to local residents. The villagers have appealed to the relevant authorities, urging them to address the persistent power issues that have left the community struggling.
Residents expressed their frustration, highlighting the severe challenges they face due to the lack of electricity. “Essential services such as heating, cooking, and communication have been disrupted, making daily life increasingly difficult, especially as winter approaches,” a local resident shared.
The outage not only affects individual households but also hampers local businesses and community activities, further compounding the hardships faced by the villagers.
Community members have come together to support one another, sharing resources and finding alternative ways to cope with the situation. They remain hopeful that their plea to the authorities will lead to a swift resolution, restoring power and stability to their village.
When KINS correspondent contacted officials of the Power Development Department (PDD) in Gurez, they stated that the transformer had burned out due to overloading. The official assured that efforts are underway to procure a new transformer and restore electricity soon.(KINS)
