Army officer praises Akhnoor operation success, reports over 50 terrorists awaiting entry into Jammu

JAMMU, Oct 29 – With over 50 terrorists reportedly stationed across the border, aiming to infiltrate Jammu’s borders, security forces remain on high alert to counter potential threats, especially with the challenging winter season ahead, a senior Army official stated today.

Following a successful operation that led to the elimination of three terrorists in the Akhnoor sector, Major General Sameer Srivastava, General Officer Commanding of the 10 Infantry Division, confirmed the Army’s commitment to preventing terrorists from infiltrating and threatening civilian life. “The forces will not allow a free run to any terror groups intending harm,” he emphasized.

The operation, which unfolded over 27 hours, culminated in the deaths of three terrorists in a forested area near the LoC. Officials reported that two of these terrorists were killed early Tuesday, underscoring the military’s readiness for an infiltration pattern that shifts annually, especially during snowfall, as confirmed by Major General Srivastava and Brigadier Kapil Taneja, Commander of the 28 Infantry Brigade.

Intelligence sources indicate that 50 to 60 terrorists are active in areas south of Pir Panjal, although the exact numbers fluctuate. Major General Srivastava highlighted the success of this latest mission, noting the recent group was not newly infiltrated but had been tracked by security forces within the region. “The Akhnoor area will remain tightly surveilled, even as reports confirm that there were only three terrorists,” he remarked, adding that the counter-infiltration grid has been fortified.

The recovered cache included a sophisticated M-4 carbine, though Major General Srivastava refrained from attributing arms sources directly, emphasizing the presence of alternative supply routes. Although no explosive vest was found, the group was well-equipped with arms, ammunition, and IEDs. He dismissed speculation about a specific target, remarking, “Any planned attack is unlikely to succeed in this guarded region.”

In conclusion, he reiterated the commitment of the armed forces to preventing any attempts to sensationalize terrorist activities in Jammu, stating, “We are fully prepared to maintain peace in the region.”
