Police detains 7 notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS act in Kulgam & Awantipora

Srinagar, Dec 14 (KINS): Seven notorious drug peddlers have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act in Kulgam and Awantipora.
In Kulgam, three drug peddlers—Nisar Ahmad Mir (son of Abdul Salam Mir, Mohdpora), Manzoor Ahmad Mir (son of Abdul Samad Mir, Tengbal), and Hilal Ahmad Mir (son of Abdul Rashid Mir, Bungam Okey)—have been detained under the PIT NDPS Act, 1988, following orders from the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir. They have been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
In Awantipora, four more drug peddlers—Aadil Ahmad Bhat @Taigoo (son of Abdul Majeed Bhat, Tulbagh Pampore), Gulzar Ahmad Dar (son of Ghulam Hassan Dar, Panzgam Awantipora), Yawar Yousuf Sofi (son of Mohd Yousuf Sofi, Kadlabal Pampore), and Feroze Ahmad Chopan (son of Mushtaq Ahmad, Larow Jagir Tral)—have been detained under the same Act after obtaining formal detention orders. They have been sent to District Jail Jammu and Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu. These individuals were involved in promoting the drug trade and supplying narcotics to the youth of the Police District Awantipora.
Under Section 3 of the PIT NDPS Act, 1988, individuals engaged in illicit drug trafficking, which poses a significant threat to public health, can be detained for up to one year, with the possibility of extension.
The J&K Police remains committed to its fight against drug trafficking and urges public cooperation in addressing the growing social issue of drug abuse to protect the youth from this devastating addiction.(KINS)
