Gulmarg, Jan 01 (KINS): Renowned tourist destination Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district attracted many visitors for New Year celebrations, offering them a memorable experience with its snow-covered scenery and winter charm.
Famous for its breathtaking views and adventure activities like skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing, Gulmarg was bustling with visitors despite no official events being organized.
News gathering agency KINS reported that the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department had opted for a low-key New Year due to the seven-day national mourning following the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Deepika, a first-time visitor from Mumbai, described her joy at celebrating New Year in Gulmarg, calling it a dream come true.
“It is truly a paradise. This is my first time seeing snow, and I can’t describe how magical it feels to be here. Celebrating the New Year in Gulmarg has been the best experience of my life,” she said.
Manika, another tourist, echoed similar sentiments, marveling at the natural beauty of the region.
“Kashmir is indeed a paradise on earth. Gulmarg has been an incredible destination to start the New Year. We had so much fun,” she told KINS.
The Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, was a major draw for visitors, offering spectacular views of the snow-clad mountains. Many tourists enjoyed the gondola ride, making it a highlight of their trip.
The influx of tourists has been a boon for locals involved in the tourism sector. Mustafa Gulam, a sledge and slide operator, expressed happiness over the turnout.
“Many tourists came for Christmas and New Year, and it has been great for our livelihood. Tourism here is thriving, and we hope it continues to grow,” he said.
Local accommodations, including hotels, resorts, and guesthouses, were fully booked, and visitors indulged in the region’s warm hospitality and unique cuisine, adding to their experience.
Despite the absence of official celebrations, Gulmarg’s natural beauty and winter activities made it a perfect destination for welcoming the New Year.
The joyful experiences of tourists and the support to local livelihoods have set a positive tone for the year ahead.(KINS)
