Sonamarg, Jan 13 (KINS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while inaugurating the Z-Morh Tunnel in Sonamarg, highlighted the transformative infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing his government’s commitment to delivering on promises made to the people.
“A few days ago, I had the opportunity to inaugurate the new rail division. Today, I am honored to inaugurate the Z-Morh Tunnel in Sonamarg. This is Modi: promise made is promise kept,” the Prime Minister said while addressing a large gathering at the tunnel site in Sonamarag, as per news gathering agency KINS.
The Z-Morh Tunnel is a critical development for the region, ensuring all-weather connectivity to Sonamarg, a popular tourist destination. “When roads are closed, it becomes difficult for people to move. This tunnel will provide year-round connectivity and transform the lives of people here,” PM Modi said.
Highlighting progress in the region, the Prime Minister pointed to the integration of the Kashmir Valley into the national rail network. “Now the Kashmir Valley is connected by rail, and I can see the happiness among the people. This is the new Jammu and Kashmir,” he remarked, congratulating the people on the region’s development.
PM Modi spoke about India’s strides in infrastructure and welfare over the past decade. “In the last 10 years, Jammu and Kashmir, like the rest of India, has seen tremendous progress. People have received new houses, better healthcare facilities, and access to educational institutions like IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, medical colleges, and nursing colleges,” he said.
He also underscored the government’s focus on connectivity projects across India. “From Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh, roads, tunnels, and bridges are being built. In Jammu and Kashmir alone, 14 major tunnels are under construction, along with other projects worth Rs 42,000 crore. These will not only improve connectivity but also bring tourists to even the most remote villages,” he noted.
The Prime Minister described the peaceful environment in Jammu and Kashmir as a key driver of growth. “The peace we now see in Jammu and Kashmir is bringing immense benefits to the region. It is creating opportunities and opening new avenues for the people,” he said.
He concluded by highlighting the global recognition of India’s infrastructure advancements. “With railway connectivity, state-of-the-art tunnels, and the world’s largest bridges, the world is watching India’s progress. Jammu and Kashmir is becoming a hub of development, and its future is brighter than ever,” he affirmed.(KINS)
