NEW DELHI, Feb 10 (KINS): The Delhi High Court on Monday granted a two-day custody parole to Jammu and Kashmir Member of Parliament Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Rashid Engineer, allowing him to attend the ongoing Parliament session on February 11 and 13.
Justice Vikas Mahajan issued the order with specific conditions, including that Rashid be escorted by armed police personnel during his visit and not be allowed to use a cellphone or address the media. The court also stated that Rashid would be transported to the Lok Sabha and back, with security arrangements inside Parliament to be coordinated with the secretary general.
Rashid, the Baramulla MP, is facing trial in a terror funding case, where he is accused of financing separatists and terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
The court had reserved its decision on Rashid’s custody parole application on February 7. Rashid had approached the High Court after the NIA court handling his bail left him in legal limbo following his election to the Lok Sabha, citing a lack of jurisdiction as a special MP/MLA court. He had requested interim relief in the form of custody parole to attend Parliament.(KINS)
