Kashmir Handicrafts Dept issues advisory against counterfeit products amid spring season and annual Tulip festival

Srinagar, March 06 (KINS): With the arrival of the Spring Season and the much-anticipated Tulip Festival in Kashmir, the Handicrafts and Handloom Department has issued an advisory urging tourists to be cautious while purchasing handicraft items.
The department has warned against the sale of counterfeit and machine-made products being falsely marketed as authentic Kashmiri handicrafts.
In the advisory, as per news agency KINS, the department has instructed visitors to report any instance of fraud or misleading sales to the authorities. Complaints can be registered via email at dir.handicraft@jk.gov.in or through the helpline 0194-2472065.
Additionally, business establishments and traders dealing in Kashmiri handicrafts have been strictly warned against selling fake products under the guise of traditional handmade crafts.
“Violators will face stringent action under the Quality Control Act, 1976, which includes penalties, seizure of goods, cancellation of registration, and blacklisting”.
The advisory aims to preserve the authenticity of Kashmir’s renowned handicraft industry and protect both artisans and tourists from fraudulent practices during the festival season.(KINS)
