Jammu-Srinagar National Highway closed amid heavy rains, landslides

Srinagar, April 20 (KINS): The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed for vehicular movement due to multiple landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones triggered by relentless rainfall across the region.

The inclement weather has severely affected the road conditions at several stretches of the vital highway.

Vehicular movement was stopped from both ends on Jammu Srinagar Highway due to landslides shooting stones at several places.

The roads including the Mughal Road, Sinthan Road, and the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road are also closed due to similar weather-induced disruptions.

In an advisory as per news agency KINS, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has urged commuters to refrain from planning any travel along these routes until the weather improves and the roads are cleared and made safe for movement.

“Due to heavy rains and continuing landslides, Jammu Srinagar National highway is closed .People are strongly advised not to undertake any journey till further notice,” the advisory read.

“Restoration work is underway but is being hampered by adverse weather conditions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will issue updates as and when the roads become motorable”.(KINS)
