In just one year, we re-energized education and health sectors: Minister Sakina Itoo

KINS Desk

Srinagar, Oct 15 (KINS): Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education, Sakina Itoo on Wednesday hailed the National Conference government’s transformative achievements, saying that in just one year, it has restored accountability, revitalized the education system, strengthened healthcare services, and delivered tangible results where previous ‘administrations could not’.

She made the remarks during a visit to a local college celebrating its 75th anniversary, reflecting on the administration’s achievements over the past year across health, education, and social services.

Addressing the media, Sakina Itoo as per news gathering agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) said, “One year of government work may seem short, but in this period, we have made significant strides in ensuring accountability and functionality in departments, particularly in education and health.”

She highlighted major accomplishments in the education sector, noting that many institutions that were previously non-functional in practice have now been revitalized. “We have recruited staff, rationalized vacancies, and streamlined administrative processes. Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) have been conducted, and the academic session has progressed smoothly,” she added.

On the health front, the minister said the government has taken concrete steps to strengthen infrastructure and improve patient care. “Where hospitals previously lacked essential facilities such as MRI, CT scans, or X-ray equipment, we have ensured their availability and accountability. Over 540 new doctors have been recruited to serve remote and underserved areas,” she said.

The Minister acknowledged the challenges that have persisted over several years but emphasized that her department has successfully made hospitals functional, enhanced service delivery, and improved patient care.

“While there is still more work to be done, the progress achieved in just one year is tangible and promising,” Itoo said.(KINS)
