Tashkent Sericulture Director Visits CSR&TI Pampore to Boost Global Ties

Srinagar, Nov 23: Dr. Valiyev Sayfiddin Tojiddinovich, Director of the Sericulture Research Institute, Tashkent, Uzbekistan visited Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute of Central Silk Board at Pampore on 22nd and 23rd November 2025, marking an important milestone for international cooperation in temperate sericulture between two premier Research Institutes under Indo- Uzbekistan collaborative Research project.

Dr Sardar Singh Director Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute Pampore who earlier this year had visit Sericultural Research Institute Tashkent for R&D collaborative Research project with Uzbekistan, welcomed Dr. Valiyev along with the scientific fraternity of the institute. Extensive and meaningful interactions with the scientists, discussing advancements in temperate sericulture, research priorities and avenues of collaborative work was discussed in details.
During the visit vital silkworm genetic resources was exchanged between two Institute as a part of material transfer agreement for strengthening silkworm breeding and developmental strategies in temperate sericulture.

Dr. Valiyev also visited the Institute laboratories,site of Seri-Tourism project of Institute at Manasbal, Ganderbal. He was highly impressed by the conservation and maintenance of 150 temperate mulberry varieties sourced from 20 countries and silkworm germplasm of Indian, chiniese , European and Japanese origin by CSB-CSR&TI Pampore and commended the efforts of Central Silk Board in preserving and showcasing global mulberry and silkworm diversity in Kashmir’s temperate ecosystem.

The visit holds immense significance, as it lays the foundation for a robust partnership between CSR&TI Pampore and the Sericulture Research Institute, Tashkent—one of the oldest sericultural research establishments in the world. The exchange of promising silkworm genetic resources between the two premier temperate sericulture institutes during this visit marks a landmark step towards strengthening global genetic resource networks and fostering future breeding programmes.

Dr. Valiyev also gained valuable insights into sericultural practices unique to the temperate climatic conditions of Kashmir, drawing parallels with the sericulture belts of Uzbekistan, which share similar ecological features. Both sides expressed optimism that mutual collaboration will significantly contribute to boosting high-quality bivoltine silk production in the two countries.

Dr Sardar Singh Director CSB-CSR&TI Pampore opined that under the directions of Member Secretary Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles Govt of India, this visit and exchange of genetic resources has opened new areas of R&D collaboration, joint projects, and knowledge exchange for scientists of CSR&TI Pampore and Sericulture Research Institute of Tashkent. The discussions set the stage for a long-term partnership focusing on genetic improvement, advanced rearing technologies and sustainable sericulture development in temperate regions.

This visit also marks a historic step forward in international cooperation, opening new avenues for scientific advancements and mutual growth in temperate sericulture between India and Uzbekistan.
