38 new cancer patients diagnosed daily in J&K

Srinagar, Dec 8 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing an alarming surge in cancer cases, with official data indicating that nearly 38 new patients are being diagnosed every day across the Union Territory.

Figures released by the Union Health Ministry reveal that 14,112 cancer cases were recorded in 2024 alone, highlighting a sharp rise in incidence. Over the past five years, the total number of reported cancer cases in Jammu and Kashmir has climbed to 67,037, raising serious concerns among health experts and policymakers.

Medical professionals have termed the trend as deeply disturbing, stressing the urgent need for enhanced screening facilities, early detection programs, and improved cancer care infrastructure across the region. (KINS)
